Boonton resident Suzanne Griffin runs a local animal welfare group that assists residents with stray cat and kitten issues. Currently, there are a large number of felines available for adoption. All animals are rescued from Boonton, Montville and Parsippany. All are tested for disease, altered, vaccinated and checked for parasites before adoption. If you would like to add a new addition to your family, please email blvdtravel@aol.com or visit our website www.pass4pets.org. The group is also in need of donations of clean towels, pet carriers, bleach, laundry soap and paper towels.
The Boonton Health Department is actively engaged in heightened surveillance regarding Swine flu (H1N1) developments. To date, no cases have been confirmed in the Boonton area. The Department is coordinating its surveillance and monitoring efforts with the Morris County Office of Health Management and the NJDHSS (New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services). There are certain precautions everyone should take to reduce the chances of getting ill and or spreading illness, such as; Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly using soap and/or an anti-bacterial product; When you cough and or sneeze, cover your mouth by coughing and or sneezing into your arm-(raise your arm and cough and or sneeze into your elbow joint), not into your hands If you are using tissues, dispose of them properly in a receptacle and Wash Your Hands before going onto another activity. Stay home if you are feeling sick. The symptoms of swine flu are similar to seasonal flu and include; fever, cough, lack of appetite, fatigue etc. Parents having ill children should make arrangements to keep them home. Call your physician if illness continues. The State of New Jersey has recently posted a Swine Flu HOTLINE that is available 24 hours a day to respond to citizens’ inquiries and or concerns. The Hot Line number is 1-866-321-9571. Additionally, information is available at the CDC website; http://www.CDC.gov/swineflu/ We will provide updates to this site as additional information becomes available.
